Honey, I know Nova has been through so much, but she can adapt to blindness even on three legs, but she cannot adapt to the pain. I imagine as you wrote this you were terrified about Nova&#39;s future and, also, your own ability to deal with a blind 3-legged dog. I am so glad to hear that &quot;grandma&quot; is doing well and you were able to be there with your son. I want you to know that when it comes to Nova&#39;s pain, there is no way she will ever adapt to it. Pain is pain and it is a horrible thing to live with. I hope I&#39;m not being too blunt, but having lived through a dog who had glaucoma, I can speak from some experience. I, in no way, want you to think that I don&#39;t have the highest respect for your decisions regarding your girl, but thought I would let you know how I feel about the pain issue. I suffer from chronic pain and am now on disability because of it. I suffer from terrible depression, as well and it&#39;s mostly because of the pain. I have not been able to adapt to it even though I am on some of the strongest narcotics known to man. I apologize that I am reading your blogs in reverse. I have this horribly urgent feeling that I must catch up on how your girl is doing. I wouldn&#39;t do the lazer surgery, either. I had no idea what you and Nova have been going through. I had a Basset Hound (Brenda) who had glaucoma as a puppy and I can attest to the pain it causes. It is just purely awful. She was allergic to the hepatitis part of the vaccines dogs get and her eye just &quot;blew&quot; up in size. I raced her to an emergency vet in Denver on a Saturday morning and they started her on Mannitol IV Salts to shrink the eye. Luckily, this emergency clinic was right next door to a renowned canine and feline eye doctor. He told me she had to lose her eye to stop the pain and I allowed him to remove it. She became well quickly, after that, but the month I went through with her eye growing and then shrinking and then growing again before they realized it was the vaccine that was causing her problem was one of the hardest months of my life. I slept on a futon with my little dog and I worried over her so. I was so thankful I found those vets that day and wonder if they have done the Mannitol IV Salts on Nova to help shrink that eye. It&#39;s so good to hear from you again, but this news has me in tears. I can only imagine how awful you must feel.
